Casual Elegance

Question:  What is Casual Elegance?

For Men

Casual elegance remains huge, but everything needs to coordinate from shirts, to trousers, to belts, to socks, to shoes.  We want it to all work together so there is a level of sophistication—a complete package.  Casual elegance is the look of sophistication without looking stodgy.  It is a power look without looking stuffy.  It is the richness of great fabric coupled with great fit.

The sport jacket is the most important tool for dressing casually.  Wear it with a knit or sport shirt and trousers from Samuelsohn or Jack Victor, and you have an informal look that can take you to dinner, a play, a concert, or even the office.  The right sport coat with a pair of jeans and a Stone Rose shirt becomes casual chic.  A white shirt from Eton always works.  Sports coats are softer and more casual.  The sport coat is indispensible – it is the place for your phone, glasses, theater tickets, and dresses you up.  For the sport coat, add a great pocket square from Eton or a pocket round from Edward Armah.

The sport shirt is very important.  Collars can be button down or spread.  It’s all about color – a great sport shirt from Peter Millar or Sand defines casual elegance.

Lastly, the right footwear is essential.  Nothing destroys the look like the wrong shoes.  Try a double monk from Magnanni or To Boot, a great shoe from Donald J Pliner, or even a boot from Wolverine.

And, the sock from VK Nagrani makes the complete outfit.
